AFCON 2023: "I'm ready for the challenge" - Semenyo

Ghanaian striker for English Premier League side Bournemouth, Antoine Semenyo has expressed his readiness to accept the challenges that come along with the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 23-year-old striker knows the tournament has always been a tough one and has psyched himself enough to welcome the upcoming tournament in Cote D'Ivoire in January.

Semenyo played an instrumental part in Ghana's qualification to the next AFCON when he came from the bench to set up Ghana's goal that defeated Central Africa Republic by 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The British-born Ghanaian who has been a cult figure for the Black Stars since donning the Ghana jersey sees it to be an honour to represent the West African country.

Speaking to his club's social media platform X, he admits that though he enjoyed the game against CAR, he did not expect that quality that they exuded on the day.

"That was a good game, a tough game. The pitch wasn't too good and the opposition, they surprised us, they were really good. I am happy I came on to provide the assist. I can't complain," he said.

"It is going to be tough (tournament in Cote D'Ivoire) but I'm ready to embrace that challenge. For my family, it is big. My dad played in Ghana years ago and it is nice to represent all the family and my fans. It is an honour, really."

Antoine Semenyo has had a good start to the 2023/24 Premier League season with Bournemouth who are 17th on the league table with 3 points.

He has featured five times in the league and has scored once against Liverpool.

Ghana sealed qualification to the next AFCON after beating Central Africa Republic and made it ten consecutive AFCON's since missing it in 2004 in Tunisia.
