AFRICA: Samuel Eto'o under investigation for match-fixing, faces 10 years incarceration

Cameroon FA President Samuel Eto'o Fils is under investigation in Cameroon for an alleged match fixing in the country's second tier football in July 2023.

The former Barcelona striker was caught on tape discussing how he can manipulate matches for Victory United to gain promotion into the next stage of Cameroonian football with the President of the club, allegations which has been denied by both people.

Police in Cameroon indicate that Samuel Eto'o is using his office to abuse authority and corruption which has been widespread since he took over as the country's FA Presidency in December 2021.

The four-times Africa Footballer of the Year has been reported to the world's football governing body, FIFA on several occasions including a recent one where he was caught in a video of him abusing an Algeria journalist after a FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifier game.

After the investigation, if found guilty of offenses leveled against him, Eto'o will face a 10-years imprisonment including 40 other officials from the Cameroonian FA.
