CAF Champions League: Medeama SC secure group stage spot despite defeat to Horoya AC

Ghana Premier League side Medeama SC have secured a spot in the group stages of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League season.

Horoya AC defeated Medeama SC by 2-1 at the General Lansana Conte Stadium in Conakry but was not enough to push them through the next stage.

Medeama SC scored first on the 24th minute of the game from the spot through marksman Jonathan Sowah after winning a penalty kick.

Two minutes after scoring, Medeama's celebration was shortlived when Ghanaian, Mandela Ocansey equalized on the 26th minute to level the scoring.

The first half ended one all in an end-to-end encounter to depict the kind of game expected by both side.

In the second half, Medeama remained solid at the back to repel whatever Horoya AC threw at them just to ensure they endure the pressure to qualify to the next round.

Horoya AC had other ideas to thwart what Medeama SC brought at them to score on the 76th minute to take the lead for the first time in the game.

Despite Medeama SC conceding in the second half, remained focused to end the game 2-1 against them but 4-3 on aggregate for them to book a place in the group stages of the competition.

Medeama SC follow the step of Berekum Chelsea who were the last team from Ghana to make it this far in 2012 under Hans Van Der Pluym.
