CAS uphold GFA ruling on Tema Youth, club to pay percent to GFA

The Court of Arbitration for Sports, CAS has upheld the rulings of the Player Status Committee of the Ghana Football Association to order Tema Youth to pay a 30% onwards transfer to Red Bulls FC and a 10% transfer fee to the Association.

CAS pronounced the decision earlier on Friday after the decision has survived over three years from the GFA to CAS on the transfer of Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil from Tema Youth to Belgian side RKC Genk.

Red Bulls FC, a lower tier side in Ghana, reported Tema Youth to the Player Status Committee of the GFA for failing to fulfill their part of the transfer after which the Player Status Committee instructed the club to do the needful after going through all legal processes.

Tema Youth, after failing the Appeals Committee ruling, proceeded to CAS, however, failed to make headway in addressing their case satisfactorily.

In 2019, the Elections Committee of the Ghana Football Association, before the GFA elections, disqualified Winfried Osei Kwaku "Parmer" to contest the election for failing to pay the percentage to the football association.

The 24-year-old was transferred to RKC Genk from Tema Youth in the 2017/18 season for a fee of 3 million euros.

The decision by CAS means that Tema Youth would be further demoted to the lower level after been relegated from the Division One League last season as punitive measure.

The club will further settle all debt to Red Bulls FC and that of the Ghana Football Association.
