OFFICIAL: Morocco to host AFCON 2025

Morocco have won the right to host the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2025 after garnering all twenty-two (22) votes of the Executive Council Members of the Confederations of Africa Football, CAF.

Morocco beat countries like Algeria and Nigeria to it where both countries failed to pull a single vote during the election at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

The right to host the 2025 AFCON became imperative after original host of the tournament, Guinea, pulled out due to a coup d'etat that occurred in the country in 2022 which disrupted the countries preparations to welcoming Africa in the continent's elite show piece.

Morocco, with her rich football facilities, convinced CAF to hand over the hosting right to her for the 35th edition of the tournament to replace Guinea who are currently working to returning to democratic rule.

Having won the right to host the competition, it will be Morocco's second time as host of the competition which they did in 1988.

Morocco finished 4th in the last FIFA World Cup held in Qatar becoming the only Africa country to reach that far in the history folklore of the tournament and will be hoping to building on it to win the tournament in 2025

.

The tournament reverts back to June/July in 2025 after the COVID 19 pandemic delayed the tournament a year late forcing it to January 2022 instead of June 2021.

Cote D'Ivoire will host the tournament next year from January 11 to February 2, 2024.
