Black Stars coach admits challenges in current team

Head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Chris Hughton has admitted the crisis the Black Stars are going through after Tuesday's 4-0 defeat to the United States.

Speaking to the media, the Irish-born Ghanaian coach admits that the team needs to improve to get a better outing at the next AFCON in Ivory Coast in January 2024.

“We are all going through a difficult period with regards to the performances that can see us scoring goals to win games, that has been difficult”.

“There are some aspects of the game that has been okay. We have qualified for AFCON and we did enough to win the group not just to qualify and that’s the balance”.

“The balances are from there, we need to develop more because we are going to a tough AFCON tournament in January and we need to develop. I will continue to work hard as I can to pick the right squad, pick the right tactics to win the games we need to win to do well," says Hughton.

Ghana suffered a back-to-back defeat to Mexico and the United States in the October 2023 FIFA international break conceding seven goals in the process in preparatory games ahead of the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in November.
