Joseph Aidoo out for six months, set to miss AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast

Ghana defender Joseph Aidoo will be out of football action for the next six months due to an injury he sustained in Ghana's friendly against Mexico.

His Spanish club Celta Vigo have announced his absence in a press statement on Thursday.

The 28-year-old was substituted on the 27th minutes of the game against Mexico by Clermont Foot's Alidu Seidu after missing his foot to rupture his Achilles tendon.

A further check after the game by his club revealed that he will not be available for at least the next season which will force him to miss the next AFCON in Ivory Coast.

The statement by Celta Vigo reads:

"The head of RC Celta's medical services, Juan José García Cota, operated this morning on center back Joseph Aidoo, who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in a match played with his national team last Saturday. The intervention, which passed without complications and took place early in the morning at the Fremap Hospital in Vigo, consisted of the reconstruction of the tendon with reinforced suture and the application of growth factors.

"The light blue defender will remain out for a minimum of 6-7 months. The club reiterates its message of encouragement and support for Aidoo, whom it wishes a full recovery,” the club announced on Thursday.

Ghana lost her two international friendlies against United States and Mexico by 4-0 and 2-0 respectively.
