Accra Sports Stadium to be closed for Christmas festivities; GPL clubs to find alternatives

The National Sports Authority, NSA have written to all Ghana Premier League clubs using the Accra Sports Stadium to find alternative venues for their league games throughout the month of December.

The NSA, through a letter signed the Director General of the Authority, Prof Peter Twumasi on the 20 October, 2023, have officially informed Accra Hearts Of Oak, Great Olympics and Accra Lions of their intention to close down the facility to allow it to be used for Christmas activities.

The Accra Sports Stadium have been earmarked for musical and concert activities throughout the months which will not permit for foot all games, thereby forcing clubs to seek alternative venues.

The trend of giving out the facility for such event at the expense of football has become a norm and has had calls from the football fraternity on the choice of the Authority whiles football activities are ongoing in the local league.

Accra Hearts Of Oak have the Cape Coast Sports Stadium as their second home grounds, whereas The WAFA Park at Sogakope will serve as the alternative for Accra Lions and Great Olympics.
