Bashir Hayford supports Prosper Ogum on Kotoko players being "politicians"

Former Asante Kotoko SC coach Bashir Hayford has stressed and hammered on what current coach of the club Prosper Narteh Ogum said on the current crop of players that they are politicians.

In a meet the press, the coach poured out his worries on the team's inability to perform to the require standard citing reasons of the players lackluster attitude off and on the pitch which has forced him to make use of inexperienced players.

Bashir Hayford insists what the coach has said is exactly what happens as most Ghanaian footballers use the media to fight for a place in football teams.

The two times Ghana Premier League winner who reveals has been in a similar situation of having players serving a club for more than seven years, sacked players from camp to instill discipline in the team.

In an interview with Akoma FM in Kumasi, he charges Prosper Ogum to take charge and have firm control of the team as the team strives to return to winning ways.

"There is nothing wrong with what coach Prosper Ogum said about Kotoko players being politicians. Everyone is a politician, some of the players have friends in the media, and others are club fans who believe that their favorite player should be selected in a game. However, these individuals should consider whether or not the players are prepared to play," Bashir Hayford explained.

"Controlling a player who has been in a team for a long time becomes more difficult. I've been in this situation before, when I sacked 7 players from the team, and people didn't understand what I was doing. When you keep them, it becomes difficult controlling them because of the pressure from their media friends," he continued.

"Politics is an internal thing in the team, and the players are aware of it; the coach must rather keep them under control," he concluded.

Asante Kotoko have won two games in nine games this season and have ten points lying 14th on the league log.
