CAF Champions League: Medeama opponent, Belouizdad destroy Yanga in group opener

 Algerian side CR Belouizdad opened the Group D matches of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League season with Young Africans from Tanzania and defeated them comfortably by 3-0 at the Stade de 5 Julliet 1962, al-Jaza-ir in Algers.


Goals from Raouf Benguit, Abderrahamane Meziane Bentahar and Lamin Jallow wrote a melodious script for CR Belouizdad which caught Yanga finding no response to them after ninety minutes after a long trek to Northern Africa.


The results will mean a lot to Sunday's encounter between Al Ahly of Egypt and Medeama SC of Ghana as the game will determine how the group will finish after Match Day 1 in the group.


The Ghanaian champions will be in to continue their good run in the campaign to cause a surprise against the 11-times Africa Champions at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.


Medeama SC left Ghana earlier on Wednesday Egypt to have ample time to prepare ahead of the game and, fortunately, have worked out the necessary patches to be able to handle Al Ahly to a respectable results since arriving. 


Both Al Ahly and Medeama SC have addressed the media ahead of the game and, as expected, are assuring of exhibiting a good game, especially the away side.


A positive results for any of the side will open the group wide for any of the four clubs to qualify to the next stage.
