"Own, manage your own Stadium" - GFA and clubs told

The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi has called on the Ghana Football Association and subordinate football clubs in the league to own their football grounds that is suitable to host football games rather than being over reliant on government's facilities which drain clubs after deductions for using the facilities.

Ghanaian clubs, including the GFA, have over the years, depended on the stadia built by government for their football games and has drawn the attention of the aspiring Member of Parliament to advise clubs to build their own facilities and properly manage them to help clubs to remain financially viable.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, Prof. Twumasi further showed the way how the GFA and clubs can have their own stadium which will uplift the image of football clubs in Ghana.

"I think it's high time the GFA built their own stadium.    For example, the World Cup money that we get should be used for some of these things. We can use the World Cup money to design a stadium purposely for football matters and the federation (GFA) will handle that," he told Graphic Sports.

"Not only the GFA, but all the clubs playing in the Premiership must own stadiums or venues good enough to host a match.

"If I have my way, every club that plays in the Premier League must demonstrate that they have their own stadium. If they don't have the money they can team up with the banks for loans to be deducted from their gate proceeds for a number of years," he added.

The facilities left for use during international games for our National Teams and that of our clubs in Ghana is the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi which was cleared for use by the Confederations of Africa Football for Ghana’s World Cup Qualifier games which starts on Friday.

Medeama SC and Dreams FC have only one option to use the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as the Cape Coast Sports Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium are not in good condition to welcome games, according to CAF’s inspection team.
