CAF Champions League: Match Report - Medeama SC heroically defeat CR Belouizdad in Kumasi

 Medeama SC welcomed Algerian side CR Belouizdad to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for their CAF Champions League Match Day 2 encounter which ended 2-1 in favor of the Yellow and Mauves.


CR Belouizdad scored first from the spot by Abdelraouf Benguit and was leveled by Daniel Lomotey just before the break.


A dominant Medeama SC got the winner late in the second half by Kamaradini Mamudu.


CR Belouizdad came with a clear intention to not lose the game and had all the attacking bite in the game until Medeama SC's Daniel Lomotey stole the defense of the Algerians with a header which hits the cross bar on the 7th minute.


Medeama SC followed up with a free kick on the 8th minute just behind the box but the resultant kick bounced off the human wall.


After Medeama SC failed to make good use of their opportunity, CR Belouizdad scored what seemed like a goal from a free kick but referee ignored it on the 18th minute.


Talal Bossouf found his way through three Medeama defenders and got inside the box and was brought down by Emmanuel Cudjoe to win a penalty for CR Belouizdad on the 37th minute.


Abdelraouf Benguit beat Felix Kyei from the spot to give the visitors the lead on the 38th minute.


Medeama SC gave a quick response as Kamaradini Mamudu's free kick deflected attacker Daniel Lomotey to get the equalizer from a free kick on the 44th minute got get the game back to 1-1.


On the 60th minute, there was a penalty call on Derrick Fordjour when he dilly-dallied his opponents inside the box but referee Lamin Jammeh from The Gambia from saw a corner kick.


In the dying minutes of the game, Medeama SC had glaring goal scoring opportunities to win the game but Nana Kofi Babil's indecision on the 84th minute denied the Yellow and Mauve's the win. 


After Derrick Fourdjour had set Kofi Babil on inside the box, the second half substitute decided to dribble inside a crowded Belouizdad defenders for the ball to be cleared for a corner kick.


The resultant kick nearly got Medeama SC the goal but Derrick Fourdjour's strike on the 85th minute was parried away by goalkeeper Alexes Guendouz for a corner kick.


Nine minutes of added time was to be played after ninety minute.


Medeama SC got the winner on 90+4 minutes from a sweet pull out from Kwadwo Amoako from the right side, who tirelessly won the ball in the half of his opponent, to connect Kamaradini Mamudu in the air to put Medeama SC in the lead for the first time in the game.


Medeama SC won the game by 2-1 to put them three points in the Group D after losing heavily in Match Day 1 against Al Ahly by 3-0.
