CAF Confederations Cup: Match Report - Dreams FC defeat Rivers United in Kumasi in first home game in the group stage

 Dreams FC from Ghana welcomed Rivers United from Nigeria in their Match Day 2 fixture of the CAF Confederations Cup at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and it ended 2-1 in favor of the home side.


First half goal from striker John Antwi and Abdul Aziz Issah's second half goal were enough to hand home the three points for Dreams FC with a consolation from Alex Oyowah Young for the visiting side.


Rivers United showed strength in the early exchanges trying to pick up holes inside their opponents half but Dreams FC did well to neutralize their threats.


It was on the 34th minute when John Antwi headed home the first goal of the game from a Johnson Oppong Owusu assist to give Dreams FC the lead.


The only real highlight in the first half was how the home side won possession to create avenue for the only goal in the half.


In the second half, Rivers United nearly got the equalizer on the 54th minute when Alex Oyowah Young missed a clear chance on goal against goalkeeper Gidios Aseako.


John Antwi got the second goal on the 64th minute but was ruled offside after Abdul Aziz Issah dribbled pass his markers inside the box, had a return pass to Agyenim Boateng but his final strike was touched by the experienced striker who was already in an offside position.


Abdul Aziz Issah sealed the victory on the 73rd minute when he cooly finished off a piercing pass from Agyenim Boateng to beat goalkeeper Akande Asimiyu at the far post.


Alex Oyowah Young got a cushion for Rivers United on the 90+6 minute to end the game 2-1 for Dreams FC.


Dreams FC get their first three points in the group after losing against Club Africain in the first game by 2-0 in Tunisia.
