FIFA CWC: Match Report - Al Ahly beat Al-Ittihad to book semi final berth

 Africa champions, Al Ahly of Egypt had the better of Al-ittihad of Saudi Arabia by 3-1 in the quarter finals of the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup being held in Saudi Arabia at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium, Buraydah.



Tunisian defender, Ali Maloul's first half goal and three second half strikes by Hussein El-Shahat and Emam Ashour for Al Ahly and Karim Benzema's Al-Ittihad consultation ended the game in an end-to-end battle.


Africa champions Al Ahly scored first through Ali Maloul from the spot with a left footed shot at the center of the net after Hassan Kadesh had gotten hit by the ball with his hand inside the box on the 20th minute.


Al Ittihad pushed further to get the equalizer before the break but were unfortunate to have had all their chances not entering the net.


The Saudi giants won a penalty kick on the 41st minute after the ball had hit the hands of defender Mohamed Abdulmomen.


Former Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema's effort was saved by Al Shanawi at the left bottom corner of the post to keep the game 1-0 for the Egyptians at half time.




In the second half, just before the hour mark, Mahmoud Kahraba assisted Hussein El Shahat's righted footed curler shot from the left side of the box to the right bottom corner of the post to give Al Ahly the second goal.


Three minutes later Kahraba got his second assist of the day when he found Emam Ashour from a counter attack who finished home cooly to extend the lead to 3-0 on the 62nd minute in an almost completed game with 28 minutes left to play.




Karim Benzema gave Al Ittihad a consultation on the 90th minute from a corner kick where he stucked with a left footed shot to reduce the deficit to two. 


Al Ahly ended the game 3-1 with ten men after Anthony Modeste, who came on for Aliou Dieng in the dying embers of the game, was giving the matching orders for violence conduct.
