Ghana Premier League: Match Report- Samartex deal mercilessly with Accra Lions to extend lead atop table

Samartex 1996 had the edge over Accra Lions at the WAFA Park at Sogakope by 3-1 in their last fixture for the first round of the Ghana Premier League 2023-24 season on the road.

Goals from Dauda Yussif Seidu, Baba Musa and Michael Ephson for Samartex gave them the three goals whiles Abdul Shakur Abubakar had a consolation for the home side.

Two goals by Samartex 1996 from Dauda Yussif Seidu on the 7th minute and Baba Musa on the 15th minute dazed off Accra Lions in their backyard to put them ahead to walk home with all three points in the first quarter of the game.

The goals were enough to give Samartex 1996 the lead into the break as they cruised controlled the game in the entire half.

In the second half, Accra Lions improved their play to dictate the pace of the game whiles Samartex remained solid to hold onto the lead to victory.

When it looked like the second would not produce further goals heading towards the end of the game, two goals were scored from both ends.

Abdul Shakur Abubakar gave the game some life on the 80th minutes to bring the game 2-1 as Lions piled incessant pressure searching for the equalizer.

However, Samartex 1996 placed the icing on the cake on the 90+3 minute when Michael Ephson scored the third goal to win the game 3-1 for the travelers.

The win further pushes them to five points apart from the second placed team before the end of games in the Round 17.

The results means Samartex 1996 are the league winners for the first round of games which will be an inspiration for them going into the second round after the AFCON to be contenders of the league title.
