REPORTS: Black Stars to camp in Kumasi ahead of AFCON in January

The Black Stars of Ghana will be camping in Kumasi, Ghana ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON to be held in Ivory Coast in January, according to reports.

The Ghana Football Association, GFA, announced two days ago that, the Black Stars will be moving to South Africa on the 31st December, 2023 for a ten-day camping before journeying to Ivory Coast three days before the tournament.

It was scheduled to include a friendly game against Botswana before the team finalize preparations ahead of the tournament.

This came as a wrong move approved by the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports from Ghanaians who believe it will only serve well should Ghana camp in an around the country to have a perfect acclimatization to weather to that of the host nation, Ivory Coast who are neighbors to the West.

The deafening call seem to have fell on good ears as the Ministry of Youth and Sports is considering a change of mind to camp the team in Ghana, specifically Kumasi before the start of the tournament.

Should that go through, it is billed that Ghana will face off Namibia, who are officially camping in Ghana prior to the tournament, in a friendly encounter in Kumasi as part of the preparation instead of Botswana which is already booked.

It is reported that, the final decision, as to whether Black Stars will camp in South Africa to afford the team with the needed space to focus and avoid interference or in Kumasi, Ghana will be known in the next few days.
