AFCON 2023: Giving up is not an option - Lamptey on Black Stars call up

 Asante Kotoko SC assistant captain, Richmond Lamptey has expressed his delight in the call up he has received into the Black Stars for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ivory Coast.

The 27-year-old feels it is an honoured done him to represent his country in the most prestigious tournament on the Africa continent and is ready to devote himself selflessly to giving out his best during the cause of the tournament in Ivory Coast.

He adds that his never to give up attitude has resulted in him getting a place in the final squad of the Black Stars for the tournament in Ivory Coast.

Calls were loud from Ghanaians for his name to be added to Chris Hughton’s final squad for the tournament after exhibiting breathtaking performance for Asante Kotoko SC in the Ghana Premier League this season.

In an interview with the club before departing to the team's camp, the WAFA Academy trained player opines that it is a dream come true for him to have come this far.

"It is a dream come true (for me). Giving up is not an option because we all know we're I've been through and as a professional player, I know what I want. Things like these do not shake you. You just have to be moving on."

Richmond Lamptey has so far recorded six assists and two goals in the league for Asante Kotoko SC who finished the first round with 29 points on 3rd position.

He has since joined his colleagues in camp and has had his first training session with the Black Stars.
