AFCON 2023: Match Report - The Elephants convincingly dispatch off Guinea Bissau in tournament opener

 Host nation, Ivory Coast defeated Guinea Bissau by 2-0 in the tournament's opening game at the Stade Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan

Two goals from both halves by Sekou Fofana and Jean-Philippe Krasso gave the Elephants of Ivory Coast a deserving 2-0 victory.

Ivory Coast started with some tremendous energy to dispose off their opponents to depict the euphoria surrounding the game by the host country. 

Ivory Coast stole the lead on the 4th minute through Frank Kessie's assist to Sekou Fofana where he beautifully placed a curler at the top right corner of the keeper to leave the game 1-0.

The two-times African Champions could have found the net two or three times before the break but flupped all the glaring chances that came their way.

Jean-Louis Gasset's side won the first half of the game with a stupendous display to whip up the joy of teeming supporters in the magnificent edifice.

Ivory Coast starter the second just like they ended the first with attacking football which gave them the second goal on the 58th minute through Jean-Philippe Krasso when he acrobatically beat Ouparine Djoco with a half volley at the right bottom corner.

They went in for more goals with attacking substitutions in search of goals for Karim Konate and Nicholas Pepe to come on for Jonathan Bamba and Jean-Philippe Krasso but could not make any major changes to the score line.

The game ended 2-0 for the host nation in a game they entirely dominated to have had more than two goals.
