AFCON 2023: Match Report - Mozambique hold Egypt to a dramatic 2-2 draw game

Ghana's group opponents, the Pharaohs of Egypt were held to a 2-2 draw game to Mozambique in the Group B opener of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023, in Ivory Coast at the Stade Felix Houphoet-Boigny.

Egypt took the lead through Mostafa Mohammed before Mozambique leveled and took the lead via Witi and Clesio Bauque in the second half and later on for Mohamed Salah to score from the spot kick.

The seven-times champions drew the first blood on the 2nd minute through Mohamed Salah's assist to Mostafa Mohammed who scored from the center of the box to the right corner. A well-taken goal by Mostafa.

After the early goal, both countries went on attacking spree for more goals but misses upon misses could not see any goal scored to keep the game 1-0 for the Pharaohs at half time.

In the second half, Mozambique took over the game to draw level with Witi's powerful headed goal from the center of the box to the right corner to open up the game to a fascinating end.

It took only three minutes for Mozambique to go ahead in the game for the first time when Clesio Bauque right footed shot beat the Egyptian goalkeeper, El Shenawy, to give Mozambique a 2-1 lead, assisted by Guima.

Hamdi Fathy came close to the equalizer on the 77th minute for Egypt but his back heel strike struck the wood work to spare Mozambique to keep going.

However, they later on, on the 90th minute, had to concede from the spot kick and Mohamed Salah Ghaly converted cooly to bring the game back on level pegging.

The game ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Stade Felix Houphoet-Boigny to share spoils after regulation time.
