AFCON 2023: Osimhen expresses optimism on winning tournament

Napoli and Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is upbeat about the AFCON 2023, he expresses firm belief in the current Super Eagles set up claiming they can win the trophy in Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have conquered Africa in 3 occasions that is 1980, 1994 and 2013 which was the last time the Super Eagles won the trophy in South Africa under late Stephen Keshi.

"The most important thing now for us is to go to Ivory Coast and win the trophy", the Napoli striker said at dinner on Friday night to celebrate his coronation as the Africa Best Player at Super Eagles camping base in Abu Dhabi.

"I believe in this group and we have a bunch of talented players to execute the job, fingers crossed and we are going to do so well".

The Napoli striker scored 10 goals during the qualifiers as he is expected to go confidently with the Super Eagles at AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles have been perennial performers at the AFCON most often ending within the last 4 between 1984 and 2019 with the exception of 2008 in Ghana and the tournaments they did not appear.

The Super Eagles lost in the last AFCON in Cameroon against a covid stricken Tunisia in the Round of 16 as they want to rewrite the scripts this time around.

With a formidable attacking quality in-depth, the likes of Osimhen, Boniface, Lookman, Chukwueze, Iheanacho, Musa, Nigeria boasts of strong attacking force led by Jose Peseiro to execute this job.

Nigeria have been paired in Group A with hosts Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau an opponent they met in the qualifiers and 2015 semi-finalists Equatorial Guinea when they hosted the competition on home soil.
