The latest injury recorded in the camp of Super Eagles of Nigeria on the eve of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023, is Umar Sadiq of Real Sociedad to be off the pitch for almost 3 weeks which automatically rules him out of the tournament.
Super Eagles Coach Jose Peseiro has quickly made a decision to replace Sadiq with Southampton striker, Paul Onuachu who is playing on loan in the Turkish Super Lig for Trabzonspor.
The Turkish based striker scored two days ago in Trabzonspor's clash against Samsunspor.
The giant striker has so far netted 9 times alongside 3 assists in 15 games played for the former Turkish Champions this season.
Paul Onuachu was an integral member of the Super Eagles team that won Bronze in Egypt 2019 AFCON.
Nigeria have had their fair share of injury setbacks going into this competition.
With Taiwo Awoniyi, Wilfred Ndidi, Victor Boniface and Umar Sadiq all ruled out of the AFCON, it's a big blow as these players would have added a lot of quality to their set up.
The Super Eagles faces Equatorial Guinea as they open their account in this competition on Sunday.
