AFCON 2023: Rohr talks tough on Super Eagles favourites tag

Former coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr has revealed how he sees his former side as one of the favourites to win the AFCON ahead of the Quarter-finals against Angola.

The Super Eagles are among the winners of the continental showpiece remaining in the last eight as quarter finals looms on Friday.

The Nigeria team came second in Group B behind Equatorial Guinea and subsequently defeated eternal rivals Cameroon to set up a Quarter-finals clash with Angola.

"They are title favourites now but must be aware. So many favourites are already out. They have stability now putting 3 central defenders in the squad", Rohr said.

Jose Peseiro decided to play 3 back in the second game against Ivory Coast as Nigeria won 1:0.

That tactics ensured technical and tactical discipline as the team is yet to concede after the first game against Equatorial Guinea.

Semi Ajayi, Troost Ekong and Calvin Bassey have really gave good performance for the Super Eagles so far in the tournament as they are been complemented by Ola Aina and Zaidu Sanusi as wing backs.

A win against Angola on Friday means the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be in the semi-final of the tournament as Nigeria have set a sight on 4th continental glory this year.
