AFRICA: Simon Adingra protects Brighton, says they are not holding him back for AFCON

Ivorian international Simon Adingra has responded to calls that his club, Brighton and Hove Albion have decided to not allow him join his country for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

The 22-year-old was reported to have sustained an injury last week and will be out for 3 to 4 weeks which could stop him from participating in the upcoming tournament in his home country.

Reactions followed in his native country of his club, intentionally holding on him so as to delay or stop him from joining the Elephants squad for the tournament.

The player clarifies that he is always motivated to represent his country at the international level and will do so once more to make his people happy.

“Rumors of Brighton holding me back from AFCON are completely false. I could not be more motivated than I am to represent my nation and make my people proud”.

“To play in the AFCON on home soil with the Ivory Coast would be a dream come true. I cannot put into words the pride it would give me to take to the field in front of my nation”.

“I am working extremely hard every single day to recover from my injury, make no mistake that I will do everything in my power to be ready to help my country go all the way”.

“I appreciate the strong support from the Ivorian Federation, from Brighton and from all my fans, happy new year, May 2024 be even better”.

Simon Adingra has been in a brilliant form for Brighton and Hove Albion this season under Italian manager, Roberto Di Zerbi having scored four times and providing an assist in 17 games.

Even though he is injured, his name is part of the final 27-man-squad for Ivory Coast believing he will make the recovery in time before the tournament starts.
