AFRICA: Louis Gasset set for Olympique de Marseille job

French side Olympique de Marseille have sacked former Italian midfielder Ivan Gennaro Gattuso from managerial position following abysmal performance as the club failed to win in the last 6 matches and are set to take Jean Louis Gasset as replacement.

The 1993 European Champions are lying 9th on the French Lig 1 table with 30 points after 22 games as the French side axed their Italian Manager.

Gasset was sacked after only 3 group games in the AFCON following Ivory Coast poor performance after which Emerse Fae took over.

According to Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano, the 70 year old French Manager will sign a contract with Marseille as he takes over from Gattuso till the end of the season.

Gasset started well in the AFCON as his side Ivory Coast defeated Guinea Bissau in the opening game of the tournament as Seko Fofana and Jean Krasso were on target.

In the second game, the hosts lost to Nigeria in a narrow 1:0 scoreline and lost in a disappointing manner to group winners Equatorial Guinea 4:0 which potentially could have led to Ivory Coast elimination.

In the twist of events, the Federation of Ivorian Football sacked Jean Louis Gasset and appointed Emerse Fae who took over and eventually won the tournament with the team as host nation.
