Ghana Premier League: Match Report- Heart of Lions narrowly beat Asante Kotoko in Kpando

 Heart of Lions defeated Eastern Kotoko SC by a lone goal at Kpando in the first match of the second round of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.



Godfred Kwadwo Asamoah's second solitary goal was enough to give the home side the important win.

Asante Kotoko SC started the game on a positive note, especially the early exchanges of the game but Heart of Lions did well to repel all the attacks that came to them.

Mukwala came close on the 9th minute but his strike was parried away by Thomas Osae who was adjudged as the Man of the Match just after the Ugandan was called for an offside on a goal bound chance few minutes before.

Lions had to turn the game over to their side before half time to balance the game and had a free kick on the 30th minute but was parried away by Frederick Asare.

The game ended barren in between with both sides displaying good football promising a better second half.

In the second half, Kwadwo Asamoah started an attack and finished it off on the 51st minute after a lost ball by Henry Ansu in Asante Kotoko's half to give Heart of Lions the lead.

The goal proved enough to ensure they garnered all the three points in a game the traveling side ended with ten men which Nicholas Mensah received a second booking on the 57th minute.

The win pushes Bashir Hayford's side from the drop zone to 15th on the table for the first time this season whiles Asante Kotoko continue the struggle of winning the league title this season.

The result means Heart of Lions have picked four points out of six against Asante Kotoko SC this season after a barren 0-0 game in the first round at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
