Rulani Mokwena praises Mauritania for investing FIFA funds

The Manager of Mamelodi Sundowns, Rulani Mokwena has talked about the improvement in Mauritanian football ahead of their fixture Champions League game with FC Nouadhibou in Group A of Africa's Premier Club Competition.

The first leg fixture was a game Sundowns won 3:0 in the tournament in South Africa.

The 2016 African champions have landed in Mauritania ahead of the clash against FC Nouadhibou and Rulani has praised his opponents in pre-match presser

"FC Nouadhibou's team has great players especially in the midfield, specifically Mohsen Badda". "I thank the Mauritania government and Nouadhibou for warm hospitality".

"Mauritania football is a great example of how investing in FIFA funds can be successful," Mokwena added.

"Not much is known about Nouadhibou project. It has been influenced by the Mauritania way of working in recent years and the Mauritanian FA contributed to its invention".

Mauritanian football rose to limelight in the recent AFCON when they stunned 2019 champions Algeria to pick one of the best third place spots to reach Round 16 in their third appearance in the continental showpiece.

Mauritanian FA led by Ahmed Yahya have been praised for their huge investment in the country's football.

FC Nouadhibou over the years has been the shining example in the country's football as they have reach the group stages of CAF Confederations Cup last season and CAF Champions League this season.

In a group with Sundowns, TP Mazembe and Pyramids FC, the Mauritanian champions are languishing at the bottom of the table with 4 points after 4 round of games.

Despite been the last team on the table, FC Nouadhibou still has a mathematical chance of qualification should they beat Sundowns and Pyramids FC in the last group game of Africa's premier football competition.
