SUPER EAGLES: Nwabali achieves a 44 year old milestone record

Nigeria goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has equalled the record of Best Ogedegbe after keeping four clean sheets in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, Ivory Coast 2023.

This was achieved when Nigeria defeated Angola courtesy Ademola Lookman's lone goal in the quarter finals.

Following the victory against Angola, the Super Eagles have now made it into the semi-final as they await either South Africa or Cape Verde.

This makes Nigeria return into the semi-final since 2019 after missing out on the podium in the last AFCON.

Stanley Nwabali was entrusted the confidence as he takes over the number 1 spot from Francis Uzoho.

After conceding in the first game against Equatorial Guinea, the 27 year old Chippa United goalie has gone four games with a clean sheet. That is against Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau, Cameroon and Angola.

This makes Nwabali to equal the record of Best Ogedegbe in 1980 when Nigeria hosted and won the AFCON title on home soil.

Already Stanley Nwabali equalled the record of Alloy Agu in 1990 after the 2:0 win over Cameroon and the win against Angola has made him match Best Ogedegbe's 44 year old record.

The Super Eagles now continue in their quest to land a 4th continental glory as they set their sight on the title.

Stanley Nwabali will hope to continue his impressive performance in the tournament.
