Max Gradel announces international retirement

 Two time AFCON winner Max Alain Gradel has announced his retirement from African Champions Ivory Coast in just a month after winning the continental showpiece on home soil.



The experienced winger 36, made his debut for Ivory Coast in November 2010 against Poland in an international friendly after the first World Cup hosted in Africa.

Max Alain Gradel went on to score 17 goals in 127 matches for Elephants. Besides he won AFCON trophies in 2015 at Equatorial Guinea and 2023 on home soil which is an enviable feat for the Gazientespor winger.

The Elephants winger started his club career with Championnet Sport in 2000 before moving to Lewisham College in the United Kingdom in 2004. He has been with three English sides namely Leicester City, Bournemouth and Leeds United. 

Max Gradel has also featured in France before where he played for St Ettiene, Toulouse and in Turkey with Sivasspor alongside Gazientespor where he currently plies his trade with.

The 36 year old winger has featured for Ivory Coast in 7 AFCON tournaments in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023 winning on two of the occasions. Also he was part of the Ivorian team that played in his country's last appearance in the World Cup in Brazil 2014.
