REPORTS: Former GFA President to contest vacant Ejisu MP seat

 Former Ghana Football Association, GFA, President Kwasi Nyantakyi to vie for the vacant seat in Parliament for the Ejisu Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, NPP.



The seat became vacant after the demise of former Deputy Finance and Economic Planning Minister, John Ampontuah Kumah Esq. who doubled as the Member of Parliament on 7th March, 2024.

Kwasi Nyantakyi, who is a hidden member of the New Patriotic Party has showed interest to contest for the seat when time is due for a bye-election to be conducted to replace the lost 45-year-old MP.

The former FIFA Executive Council Member is an indigene of Ejisu, where he lived his formative years and the hometown of his father, though his mother is from Upper West, is ready to take up the seat, according to media reports.

The ex-CAF First Vice President is reported to be a key financier of the party and played an integral part of the party's victory in the 2016 general election that brought the current government into power.

He is currently battling with the state on an exposé by Anas Aremeyaw Anas titled Number 12 which alleged implicates him of wrongdoings in football related activities during his reign as GFA President.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana are yet to announce the timeline of the bye-election in Ejisu as the Parliament of Ghana will have to officially write to inform it for the need to conduct an election to replace the demised MP.
