Samartex 1996 to use Baba Yara or Accra Sports Stadium for CAF competition

Ghana Premier League champions Samatex 1996 will using either the Accra Sports Stadium or the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for their 2024/25 CAF Champions League campaign.

This comes after not readying their home grounds, the Nsenkyire Sports Complex at Sameraboi, for the competition in August.

The General Manager of the club, Edmund Ackah revealed in an interview that the club will consider one of the two to be able to meet the standard set out by CAF for the club competition.

"For now, we are considering our games at the Accra Sports Stadium or the Baba Yara Stadium.

"The Board is yet to meet but the final decision will be made and we will know the way forward as to when we have to start preparations for our CAF Champions League campaign," Ackah told Asempa FM in Accra.

Samartex 1996 are expected to replicate what Dreams FC and Medeama SC did in last season's CAF's club competitions where they reached the semi-finals and group stages of the Confederations Cup and Champions League respectively.

The performance of Samartex 1996, after winning the Ghana Premier League 2023/24 will determine whether Ghana will be having an additional slot in the competition or not as much work were done last season by Dreams and Medeama.

CAF will be meeting next month to announce the opponents of Samartex before the preliminary stage starts in August 2024.
